Rage Against The Machine: Benghazi Edition

I kept with the news of the Benghazi hearings today whenever I got the chance. I got enough to get a pit in my stomach and some veins throbbing on my temples. I can’t decide if I’m angered more by what happened or by what isn’t going to happen. President Obama and Hillary Clinton will not be harmed by this as far as I can tell. Worst case scenario is some of their aides will resign and everybody will just move on. Hillary will run in 2016 with most of the public blissfully unaware of what Benghazi is. I always knew she was a nasty person, but today I found out she might very well be evil.

Maybe we’ve been through this before. Maybe people in the 60′s and 70′s felt this helpless under LBJ and/or Nixon, but from everything I’ve read, it sure seems like the public was much more aware of things back then, even if a majority of the public was blasé. I dunno. Very emotional and hard to make comparisons when I wasn’t there, but the feeling that we’ve lost this country to a government that has devolved into a Putin-style autocracy is hard to get past. I hope something can crack my cynicism and give me some hope.

America And Russia Fulfilling Their Orwellian Destinies

At the end of George Orwell’s famous novel Animal Farm, which was a metaphor for Stalinist Russia, the animals look through the window to see the pigs and the human playing cards and have a hard time telling the difference between the two. What was once a dream of an animal paradise had devolved into a despotic regime that closely resembled that of the humans they had ousted from power. Some great thinkers (though I can’t remember exactly who at this moment…might have been Orwell himself) took Orwell’s message a step further and predicted that this was the future of the USA and USSR. Someday, the two super powers would look at each other and see a mirror image. That was not to say that one idea, capitalism or communism, would triumph over the other, but rather each would move in the others direction until the similarities overshadowed the differences ten-fold.

I think this theory is sound and very close to becoming reality. The greatest trick history played on the United States was the fall of the Soviet Union. Foolishly (and I’m no different) we thought we had won. Freedom and liberty had triumphed over oppression, we stated with whimsy forgetting that while human beings still factored into the equation, ideas never die, they rise from the ashes like a phoenix wearing a cheap Mardi Gras mask. And we play the fools each and every time.

The one instance of such a prediction I can find was by a man named Dwayne O. Andreas, a crony-capitalist who headed Archer Daniels Midland Company for forever-and-a-day, who stated in 1989 that in about 30 years, the United States and the Soviet Union “won’t look that much different,” and both would look more like (then) West Germany: a semi-socialist state. (More details lie behind a Chicago Sun-Times pay-wall that I’m not jumping over unless someone starts paying me to write this crap.)

Whatever his reasoning, I think he’s spot on and despite the “fall of communism,” the theory is becoming reality and thanks to Obama and Putin might just meet his timeline.

In my mind, one of the most significant moves made by Putin during his never-ending presidency was the elimination of elected governors of the Russia’s federal districts. According to Wikipedia:

In July 2000, according to a law proposed by him and approved by the Federal Assembly of Russia, Putin gained the right to dismiss heads of the federal subjects. In 2004, the direct election of governors by popular vote was ended. This was seen by Putin as a necessary move to stop separatist tendencies and get rid of those governors who were connected with organised crime.

The last thing Putin wanted was a Russian federal districts taking a page out of Latvia’s playbook, but it also allowed Putin to tighten his control over the bureaucracy of the country and prevent any free-thinking governors from challenging his rule (Anybody remember Alexander Lebed?). Granted, this law was overturned in 2012 and while I’m no expert of Russian politics, I would wager a paycheck the “freely elected” governors aren’t much for making waves.

The reason I bring this is up is to draw parallels to the American situation. We now have a federal bureaucracy the likes of which Calvin Coolidge could have never imagined, but Americans do have some escape routes: they’re called Red States.

While we can never fully escape the hand of the Washington, D.C. and the federal taxes and regulations that come from it, it is still possible to live in well-run, prosperous regions of the United States. If you’ve had enough with high-taxes in California, you can move to Texas. If your business is being destroyed by state regulations in New York, you can move to Florida, or Idaho, or Nebraska. If you’re sick of crime in Chicago and not having the right to defend yourself there with firearms, you can move to Arizona.

Recently, Texas Governor Rick Perry has embraced the role of a shadow president in the shadow country of Texas. Everything the feds or blue states like Illinois and New York do wrong, Texas does right. Americans don’t have to leave their country for a change of domestic conditions the way someone in the UK or France must. Gerard Depardieu’s frustration with his taxes couldn’t be solved by leaving Paris and going to Lyon or Nice, he had to leave France altogether. And where did Depardieu chose to exile himself? Russia. (Someone left the irony on.)

So while Putin makes Russia attractive to rich actors, Obama makes Americans hate anyone who prospers. Thus, each super power steps a little closer to the other.

What may be America’s best hope is what I discussed earlier: States’ Rights. Now for liberals, this is a dog-whistle for slavery. The South fought in the name of states’ rights in the Civil War but their argument is forever tainted due to the fact that slavery was a part of that struggle. Those of us in reality know that when we talk about states’ rights we are not looking for a return to black slavery but a refuge from a (to put it mildly) heavy-handed central government.

This is the next step for the fifth columnists in the country. It probably won’t come to fruition in an Obama presidency or even Hillary Clinton’s inevitable presidency, but little by little, they will chip away at the 10th Amendment and eventually eliminate the possibility of places like Texas electing Rick Perry as their governor, or Indiana electing Mike Pence, and so on. It’ll happen slowly, subtly, so that people hardly notice.

This is why so many of us cry, “Let it burn!” As a close friend of mine said to me recently: “We want a FAST decline, not a new normal.  The bums can’t endure a fast decline.  Only winners can.”

It sounds harsh, but the alternative is the road to serfdom. Which path do you chose?

Of Anti-Semites and Winston Smith

I knew a day would come when facts no longer mattered, I just thought I would be old when said day arrived. Alas, here I am in my 41st year and the era of full-on Orwellian Newspeak is here.

I mentioned on Twitter last week that the fact Chuck Hagel has even one Senate vote of support is inexcusable. The Ron Paul-ites, or “PaulNuts,” immediately called me an anti-American and behold to the Jews. Now we learn that along with the rest of Hagel’s anti-Israeli language, he said in 2010 that Netanyahu is a radical and Israel is becoming an apartheid state. It’s a bit like saying I’m a radical because I don’t invite people that want to kill me to live in my house.

But no matter, these words only act as resume enhancements for Hagel since he has been nominated by a President that feels the exact same way about the Israelis if not all Jews in general. I’m old enough to remember a time when someone like Hagel, regardless of party affiliation, would be career-dead before you could say James Watt. But those days are now past for half of the political populace.

A Gun Rights 9/11 Premieres Tomorrow

Barack Obama is calling everyone’s bluff and is set to announce on Wednesday 19 executive orders on guns while surrounded by human political shields. Expected in the mix is another “assault”-weapons ban and prohibition of high-capacity magazine clips…which is very interesting. Much like trying to get global warming cultists to tell us the exact right temperature the earth should be, I’m very curious to find out the exact right amount of bullets in a mag that is just enough, but not too much, for the benefit of society.

If nothing else, this will keep the courts busy. Some are saying, “Ah ha, now this will REALLY get the people fired up!” After this past election, I am highly dubious. Granted, people are buying guns (and don’t forget to pick up plenty of bullets) like hotcakes, but this feels very cold war to me. Does Obama really have the stones for confiscation? Are Texas and Wyoming really ready to jail federal officials?

But no matter how you slice it, this is our best example yet of Post-Constitutional America. This “little book” as Piers Morgan calls it is being eliminated little by little, EO by EO and before long it’ll all be over and the only way to get freedom back will require blood.

A Fun Conspiracy Theory to Get The New Year Started

JumpConclusionsSo Hillary Clinton hasn’t been seen in public in weeks and went from having a concussion to now having a blood-clot as a result of said concussion. Naturally, many of us are dubious about these claims in light of the fact that she’s due to testify on her role in the Benghazi scandal. After all, Hillary’s honesty over the past 20 years has been, shall we say, less than stellar. Fold that into the Obama cult and it’s not a huge jump to make on my “Jump to Conclusions” mat.

That being said, let’s take the conspiracy theory to an even more ridiculous level. Let’s say that Hillary’s maladies are indeed real and become so bad that she is unable to run for President in 2016. That would mean the field would be wide open giving Obama his chance to repeal the 22nd Amendment, allowing him to run again in 2016. However, because there are no term limits, a desperate and revenge-minded Bill Clinton decides to run for the presidency…hell, maybe as the Republican candidate!

Absurd? Yes…maybe. Anyway, should it turn out that America is just a reality show produced by some alien race, just let it be known you heard it here first.

What Separates Bill Clinton and Barack Obama

Back in 1992, the country decided it was time for a change. The Cold War was “over” and the economy was a bit stagnant. President Bush was as wishy-washy as could be, going from “Read my lips” to “Well, alright…”

In came Bill Clinton, a lecherous hillbilly from Arkansas who had a magnificent charm and incredible ability to win people over. He also had a raging battle-axe of a wife, so you know…people could relate to him.

Once in office, the Clintons hit the ground running, moving to raise taxes and nationalize health care. The latter move was so unpopular, even the Democrat-controlled House wouldn’t go for it. In came the Gingrich gang and Bill Clinton was presented with a choice: Go down fighting in 1996 as a liberal; or move to the center and be beloved by the country. He chose adoration. Granted, it was easy for him. He had the media on his side and was able to take the credit for everything the GOP Congress did, but the fact that he was so narcissistic was a blessing in disguise. It was his narcissism that allowed the Congress to reform welfare and get the budget under control. You can nitpick over the good and bad that came out of the Clinton presidency, but in the year 2012, you can only look back on it as glory days by comparison. And again, this was thanks to Bill Clinton’s epic narcissism.

Now we come to the Obama presidency and it’s safe to say that his narcissism could beat up Bill Clinton’s narcissism. However, the difference between the two men is that Obama’s narcissism is, believe it or not, not his raison d’etre. No, this President, Barack Obama, has a desire more important to him than being loved by a majority of the American public…that is to fundamentally transform (his words) America.

I bring this up due to the ongoing battle in D.C. over the fiscal cliff. President Obama and Speaker Boehner are “playing chicken,” as they say, over what each side is willing to do on the issue. Naturally, Obama is offering tax hikes now and spending cuts on the 15th of Never. Meanwhile, Repubicans are labeled the party of the rich because they don’t want to see rates go up for anyone…and of course our general populace can’t grasp the fact that rich people don’t pay taxes anyway, no matter what their rates. Regardless, unless the discussion involves serious entitlements reform, it’s just a bunch of squawking over chump-change.

But, President Obama doesn’t want to go over a fiscal cliff, right? He doesn’t want people to suffer…he doesn’t want to take a political hit, does he? The answer is he does want to go over the fiscal cliff. He does want people to need more and more welfare. He does want to see America cut down to size.

Many have written about why he wants to “transform” American and I don’t know fully why he does, but I’m done with why. Long past it. All I care about is what. What he wants to do is send us over a fiscal cliff and bring more welfare into our lives…create more parasites and bums and slow the economic engine that is the United States. A lot of people just can’t stomach this assessment. There’s no way, in their minds, a president of the USA could want to hurt his country.

Believe what you want. The rest of us know what’s going on here. There was an old myth that a president in a bad economy usually doesn’t get re-elected…Hoover, Carter, Bush 41…but Barack Obama broke that trend by convincing enough people that they needed him because the economy was bad. That rich bastard Mitt Romney is gonna make you work for what you have. Shocking.

I still can’t stand Bill Clinton…but I’m thankful for his narcissism that delayed our country’s descent into the abyss for at least a little while. Kudos, Bill. Kudos!

Tweets of Interest: Small Businesses and Obama

Anthony Cumia of the Opie & Anthony radio program and comedian Patton Oswalt had a bit of a Twitter fight today over saving small businesses. Oswalt is a strong supporter of President Obama but doesn’t see Obama’s policies as having anything to do with small businesses struggling in the current economy. Cumia called him on it.

Check out the whole timeline for more. It’s amazing how so many Americans are blind to their own contradictions.

Muslim Brotherhood Assumes Dictatorship in Egypt, Morsi New Pharoh

They’ve talked about blowing up the Sphinx and the Pyramids, but the Muslim Brotherhood has no problem with ancient Egyptian vernacular, or at least, their form of government. President Mohammed Morsi decreed himself to be above the law and has assumed dictatorial powers…just until a new constitution is written. Yeah, and I’m Buck Rogers.

Anyway, as Ed Morrissey points out, this is all the result of the “smart power” currently on display in the Obama/Clinton/Rice/Abedin Administration. We had a semi-dictator in place in Hosni Mubarak who, while scum in his own right, did keep the Muslim Brotherhood at bay and kept peace with Israel for some 30 years. Yeah, but should America really be cozy with scumbags like Mubarak? Maybe we should “give peace a chance.” So when the natives got restless, Obama threw Mubarak under the bus. The Muslim Brotherhood is misunderstood, you see. After all, Alger Hi…I mean, Huma Abedin can vouch for them, so what the hell?

So let’s look forward to 2013 and see what’s in store:

  1. Dictatorship in Egypt
  2. Partial dictatorship in Libya
  3. Chemical weapons somewhere in Syria while the country fights a bloody civil war
  4. Iran with the bomb depending on whose estimates you believe
  5. Hamas (i.e. Iran) doing what it wants in Gaza and Israel
  6. Susan Rice, Huma Abedin, and John Kerry running our foreign policy

I don’t know about you, but I can’t seem to find a silver lining in this. Another point: back in the 1970s, things were pretty bad in the Middle East under the Carter Administration. I was very young then, but I seem to remember a lot (if not most) of the American people pretty pissed off about it. How much of the American public is pissed off about our foreign policy today? Twenty-percent? Maybe 15% soaking wet?

Yeesh.

Cult of Personality: Then and Now

Trying to explain history is no small task. You have to try. Part of being human is the search for understanding; the search for meaning. In the mid-90′s, journalists Ron Rosenbaum set out to explain Hitler or rather he set out to explain the explainers in his extraordinary work of scholarship (aptly titled) Explaining Hitler. In the book, Rosenbaum looks at the historians and scholars who have spent a lifetime trying to explain what makes a person like Adolph Hitler. It boils down to the question ‘Does evil know it’s evil?’. Also, ‘Are you born with evil or is it a learned behavior?’. Not surprisingly, no one has definitively cracked the case, but not for lack of trying.

After the fall of Hitler came the Cold War as the USA and USSR took their positions at loggerheads for the next 46 years. A fairly new book, Roosevelt’s Lost Alliances: How Personal Politics Helped Start the Cold War by Frank Costigliola, seeks to explain just how the Cold War started and how it might have been avoided. Unfortunately, Costigliola, like many scholars, is blinded by a cult of personality for the now fabled FDR as a savior of mankind. A reading of history that is all too familiar in this age of Barack Obama.

In his review of the book, Stuart Reid at the New Republic writes that Costigliola’s main argument is that the sheer winning personality of FDR might have prevented the Cold War:

The more glaring problem with Costigliola’s argument, however, is that it places far too much stock in Roosevelt’s personal touch. Costigliola gives Roosevelt credit for “cultivating personal ties, playing to emotional dispositions, minimizing ideological and cultural differences, and restraining explosive emotions” and argues that “the Truman administration might have gotten further with Stalin had it addressed the dictator’s apparent emotional needs.” Although Roosevelt may have picked up more manners at Hyde Park than Truman did in Missouri, the book never explains just how greater sensitivity would have changed Stalin’s geopolitical calculus.

To put it bluntly, Costigliola believes that given more time, FDR might have been able to convince Stalin to not be, well, Stalin. With his “personal touch” Roosevelt could have prevented the Soviets from ravaging Eastern Europe.

Does any of this sound familiar?

Idol worship of political figures is a very dangerous thing. I hope it’s not too late to reject this most recent cult of personality.

The Libya Scandal Unbound

Mitt Romney made the right play in the last debate with President Obama which centered on foreign policy. While many like myself and even the cool cucumber Charles Krauthammer would have loved to see Romney go at Obama with a Louisville Slugger on the Libya debacle, it would have taken the debate into the tall weeds. As I’ve said many times, candidates running for president actually deserve our sympathy because they have to spend so much time – most of it in the home stretch – convincing really stupid people to vote for them. Maybe that’s a little harsh but what you have to remember about “undecided” voters is that they have no real ideology. They never spend their time doing any deep thinking, of giving much consideration to things outside of their domestic bubble. Romney’s message of “we’ll be a strong nation (i.e. safe) abroad by being a strong nation domestically (i.e. economically)” was a stroke of genius considering who he has to win over in the final days. A broad, macro approach to foreign policy appeals to moderate or undecided voters who he can put him over the top on November 6th.

That being said, us political wonks know that what has happened in Libya is a “big f-ing deal” to quote our Vice President who isn’t just an idiot, he’s an unfeeling and callous individual. I’m the type of person that speaks my mind and occasional bends the rules of decorum, but asking a dead-soldier’s father about his son’s balls is the height of social ignorance and utterly contemptible. You see, to Obama, Biden and Hillary, we aren’t even real human beings, we’re like game pieces, but not in a game of kings like Chess or even Risk. I’m afraid we’re all playing Sorry.

Be that as it may, all the evidence and ass-covering of the past weeks points to only one conclusion. President Obama left our people in Libya defenseless. The only question left is why? Was it a purely political decision? an avoidance of a possibly failed military mission before an election? Certainly the ghost of Jimmy Carter’s ill-fated rescue attempt of the Iranian hostages is still with us. But even if that’s so, it’s maddening to think that Obama and his inner circle would think that something like this could stay a secret.
